Your children's dentist in Richardson

You and your child don’t have the same medical or dietary needs -- and so you shouldn’t be surprised to learn that your oral health requirements are different, too. Visiting a dentist who offers care tailored specifically to young smiles will help to ensure that your little one grows up with healthy teeth that can last a lifetime. Keep reading to learn more about our children’s dentistry services, and why we are known by many as the favorite children’s dentist in Richardson!

Breckinridge Dental and Orthodontics

It may seem early, but you should bring your little one in to see us around the time their first little tooth breaks through the gums, or no later than their first birthday. This initial appointment is a great time for us to meet your baby and check to make sure everything is developing properly in their mouth. It is also a good idea to come early to start those positive dental experiences from a young age! When visiting the dentist is the norm for your child rather than a thing to dread, they will be more likely to make dental care a habit that continues into adulthood.

WHEN SHOULD I VISIT THE DENTIST FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Your child’s first dental appointment is a friendly visit and really just a chance for us to make an introduction and also peek inside their mouth. You do not have to do anything special to prepare for this visit. During the appointment, your baby will sit in your lap as our dentists evaluate their smile and answer any questions you may have about their developing teeth. We can also show you how to massage the gums to alleviate any pain that may occur during teething.

After the appointment is over we will schedule the next visit -- and send you and your little one away with big smiles!

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR CHILD'S FIRST VISIT

During the first dental appointment our team will provide important tips for how to keep your child’s smile healthy at home. Some of this advice includes:

-Wipe your baby’s gums after each feeding with a soft washcloth.

Once some teeth have erupted, brush them with a rice-sized amount of toothpaste and wipe the gums down with a washcloth.

As soon as two teeth are touching, begin flossing.

Help your child eat a balanced, nutritious, low-sugar diet.

To avoid baby bottle tooth decay, never put your baby to sleep with a bottle.

Continue monitoring your child’s brushing and flossing techniques as they get older to ensure that they are cleaning properly every single time.

Set a good example by brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist as recommended. Don’t forget that your child looks to you for everything!
